Kylie B. teaches virtually, out of her home in downtown Ithaca, NY, the Dryden Center for Community, and the Center for the Arts of Homer. She teaches private lessons for for multiple instruments including piano, trombone, guitar, and flute in a variety of styles to ages 7 and up. She specializes in voice (please see the “note to vocalists” below) and is a passionate teacher of vocal technique and health. She enjoys teaching ear training with students of all skill levels and has developed a curriculum that helps her clients to gradually cultivate the ability to analyze melodies using solfege. She also deeply enjoys helping clients to discover their ability to match pitch after believing they are ‘tone deaf’. Each lesson is tailored to her clients, though a typical lesson may involve instruction about healthy technique, music theory, building repertoire, listening analysis, and creative exploration such as improvisation, expression, or songwriting. Students receive a google drive folder full of resources as well as a weekly practice regimen so that they know what to practice.

A Note from Kylie…

What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach music, I live it. I’m an active performer with years of experience. Playing one instrument informs the way I teach the others. There’s a perspective you can learn from each musical instrument, and it builds to a more holistic understanding of music altogether. I have also been a lifelong musician and have experienced a ton- what it’s like to be a child musician, growth, highs and lows, performance anxiety, burnout, how to master confidence in front of a crowd, being a female musician in a male dominated profession, practice fatigue, honing inspiration, you name it! It is my absolute honor to use these experiences to my students’ advantage: I’m grateful to have struggled with these things so that I can give my students some shortcuts.
